Dr. Suman Chakrabarty
Bio-Cultural Anthropologist

Dr. Suman Chakrabarty

I am a bio-cultural anthropologist working in Central and Eastern India, focusing on food, nutrition, and health among vulnerable populations, particularly Scheduled Tribes. My research examines the interrelationship between food, culture, society, and human health, with special attention to nutritional status.

I also explore how human ecology influences food and nutritional security among marginalized groups. Currently, my work investigates the complex role of gender in maternal and child healthcare practices, incorporating psychological dimensions of both mother and child. Additionally, I am interested in studying food insecurity among indigenous communities in South, Southeast, and Asia-Pacific regions.
